What is a Stage 1 Petrol Turbo Remap?

A Stage 1 petrol turbo remap is a professional ECU calibration that optimizes the engine management software of turbocharged and supercharged petrol (gasoline) engines to deliver significantly more power and torque — without any hardware modifications. Modern forced-induction petrol engines are heavily detuned from the factory to meet global emissions standards, accommodate varying fuel qualities across markets, and create product differentiation between model variants.

The same physical engine often appears in multiple power levels across a manufacturer lineup. A 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder might produce 180 HP in one model and 250 HP in another — using identical hardware. The difference is purely in the ECU calibration: boost pressure targets, ignition timing, fuel injection strategy, and torque limiter settings. A Stage 1 remap optimizes these parameters to unlock the performance the hardware already supports.

What Gets Modified

Our calibration engineers work on multiple interconnected maps within the ECU:

  • Boost pressure target maps — increased wastegate duty cycle and target boost pressure across the RPM range
  • Ignition timing maps — advanced ignition timing where knock margins allow, for improved combustion efficiency and power output
  • Fuel injection maps — optimized air-fuel ratio targets for performance while maintaining safe lambda values under load
  • Torque request and limiter maps — raised to allow the ECU to deliver the increased power through the drivetrain
  • VANOS/VVT timing — optimized variable valve timing for improved volumetric efficiency (where applicable)
  • Overboost strategy — extended or enhanced overboost windows for sustained peak torque delivery
  • Knock control calibration — verified and adjusted to maintain safe knock margins at higher power levels
  • Throttle response maps — sharpened accelerator pedal mapping for more immediate response

Typical Stage 1 Petrol Turbo Performance Gains

  • Power increase: +15-25% (e.g., 250 HP → 290-310 HP)
  • Torque increase: +20-35% (e.g., 350 Nm → 420-470 Nm)
  • Improved throttle response: sharper, more linear power delivery
  • Extended overboost: sustained peak torque over a wider RPM band
  • Reduced turbo lag: faster spool-up from optimized wastegate control

Naturally aspirated petrol engines can also be remapped, though gains are more modest (typically 5-10% power increase through ignition timing and VVT optimization).

Fuel Quality Requirements

Our Stage 1 petrol turbo calibrations are developed for RON 95 (E10) fuel as standard. If you have access to RON 98 or RON 100 fuel, we can provide a more aggressive calibration with additional ignition advance for even higher gains. Please specify your available fuel quality when ordering.

Our Process

  1. Read your ECU — extract the original file via OBD, bench, or boot mode using your reading tool
  2. Upload with vehicle details — send the file along with make, model, year, engine code, and available fuel quality
  3. Custom calibration — our engineers create a Stage 1 remap specific to your ECU software version and fuel type
  4. Quality assurance — checksum verification, knock margin validation, and safety limit checks
  5. Download & flash — receive your modified file and write it back to the ECU

Turnaround Time

Most Stage 1 petrol turbo remap files are delivered within 30-60 minutes during business hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Stage 1 remap safe for my turbocharged engine?

Yes. Our Stage 1 calibrations stay within the mechanical limits of the stock turbocharger, injectors, fuel pump, and drivetrain. We monitor knock margins, exhaust gas temperatures, and turbo speed limits to ensure long-term reliability.

Will it void my warranty?

ECU modifications can potentially affect manufacturer warranty coverage. However, the modification is fully reversible — the original calibration can be restored at any time before a dealer visit.

What fuel should I use?

Standard RON 95 (E10) is sufficient for our base Stage 1 calibration. RON 98/100 allows for a more aggressive tune with additional gains. We can provide calibrations for either fuel grade.

Can I add Pops and Bangs to my Stage 1 remap?

Yes. Pops and Bangs (crackle map) can be combined with Stage 1 for an enhanced driving experience. We offer combo pricing for multiple services.

Puis-je ajouter Pops and Bangs ?

Oui.
