In short (TL;DR)
- What it is: adjusting or switching off the factory software speed limiter in the ECU software of a quad or motorcycle.
- What we do: the software change only. We do not change mechanical limiters, tyres, brakes or suspension.
- Price: from €100.
- For what: quads and motorcycles with a programmable ECU and a factory speed limit. Not every model is supported.
- Legal position: removing the limiter does not change the speed limits set by law. For some vehicle categories (e.g. mopeds or light quads) the limit is set by law – removing it may change the vehicle’s legal status and using it on public roads may not be permitted.
- Risks: tyres, brakes, suspension, insurance and warranty. We discuss this before the work.
Speed limiter deprogramming means adjusting or switching off the factory software speed limit in the engine control unit. Many quads and motorcycles have a software limiter for various reasons: legal requirements, insurance or manufacturer caution.
What to know before ordering
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What is the vehicle category? | For some categories (e.g. mopeds or light quads) speed is limited by law. Removing the limiter may change the vehicle’s legal status, and using it on public roads may not be permitted. |
| Is the limiter in the ECU software? | If the restriction is mechanical or built in another way, a software change will not remove it. |
| Tyres, brakes, suspension | Higher speed means a longer braking distance and a higher load on the whole chassis. |
| Insurance and warranty | A software change may affect insurance and warranty – worth discussing in advance. |
What this service does not change
- Power. Switching off the limiter does not increase power by itself. If you want more power, see quad and motorcycle power increase.
- Legal restrictions. Speed limits on public roads apply regardless of the limiter.
Price
Speed limiter deprogramming costs from €100. We give the exact price after checking the model and ECU.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal?
Removing the limiter does not change the speed limits set by law. If your vehicle belongs to a category whose speed limit is set by law (e.g. a moped or a light quad), removing it may change its legal status and using it on public roads may not be permitted. Discuss this with us before ordering.
Does it suit my model?
It depends on the ECU type. Before the work we check whether the software can be read and changed. If the model is not supported, we do not start.
Will power increase?
No. Switching off the limiter only removes the speed restriction; it does not increase power.
Can the factory limiter be restored?
Yes. Before the work we save the original ECU software.
Do I need to change tyres or brakes?
Before the work we discuss the condition of the tyres and brakes and whether they suit the higher speed. If they are not adequate, we recommend replacing them first.
Will this affect my warranty?
If the vehicle is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, a software change may affect the warranty obligations. We discuss this before the work.
