What is DTC Off?

DTC Off is a targeted ECU calibration that disables specific Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored and monitored by the engine control unit. When emission components are removed or modified — such as a catalytic converter, DPF, EGR valve, or oxygen sensor — the ECU detects the change and triggers fault codes that illuminate the check engine light, activate limp mode, or prevent the vehicle from operating normally.

Rather than masking symptoms by clearing codes repeatedly, a DTC Off calibration permanently disables the monitoring routines responsible for generating those specific fault codes. The ECU simply stops checking for the condition, so no new codes are set and no warning lights appear.

When DTC Off is Needed

DTC Off is typically required after physical modifications to the vehicle:

  • Catalytic converter removal or replacement with a sports cat — triggers P0420/P0430 catalyst efficiency codes
  • Secondary air pump removal — triggers secondary air system fault codes
  • Oxygen sensor removal or relocation — triggers O2 sensor circuit and heater codes
  • Aftermarket exhaust modifications — can trigger various exhaust-related DTCs
  • Intake modifications — MAF sensor out-of-range codes after intake upgrades
  • Turbo upgrades — boost pressure deviation codes from larger turbochargers
  • Injector upgrades — injector correction value out-of-range codes

How It Works

Every ECU contains a DTC table that maps specific fault conditions to diagnostic codes. Our engineers identify the exact DTCs you need suppressed and modify the corresponding monitoring routines:

  • DTC mask modification — the specific fault code entries are disabled in the DTC configuration table
  • Monitoring routine adjustment — the diagnostic check that triggers the code is deactivated or its thresholds are adjusted beyond triggering range
  • MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) suppression — the check engine light activation for those specific codes is removed

Only the requested DTCs are disabled. All other diagnostic monitoring remains fully functional, preserving the ability to detect genuine mechanical or electrical faults.

Supported ECU Platforms

  • Bosch: EDC15, EDC16, EDC17, MD1, MG1, ME7, MED9, MED17, MEVD17
  • Continental/Siemens: SID201, SID206, SID208, Simos, EMS, MSD80-87
  • Delphi: DCM3.5, DCM6.2, DCM7.1
  • Denso: SH7055, SH7058, SH72531
  • Marelli: MJD, IAW series

Our Process

  1. Read your ECU — extract the original file using your tool
  2. Specify the DTCs — tell us which fault codes need to be suppressed (e.g., P0420, P0401, P2463)
  3. Calibration — we disable the specific monitoring routines for those codes
  4. Download & flash — receive the modified file and write it back

Frequently Asked Questions

Will other fault codes still work?

Yes. We only disable the specific DTCs you request. All other diagnostic monitoring remains active, so genuine faults will still be detected and reported.

Can you disable any DTC?

We can disable most emission and aftertreatment-related DTCs. Safety-critical codes (ABS, airbag, stability control) are not modified.

How do I know which DTCs to request?

Read the fault memory with your diagnostic tool and send us the list of stored codes. We will identify which ones can be safely suppressed based on your modifications.
